GREENINBRUM: Sustainability in Birmingham

Towards a carbon-neutral Birmingham

WHAT’S GREEN IN BIRMINGHAM?

Climate change (or climate chaos as some people call it) is a reality which will increasingly dominate the 21st century. As citizens, we can help create a city to be proud of, leading the way in reducing global warming to help save the planet for future generations.

Our aim is to become the first port of call for people looking for green products and services, green spaces, green initiatives and groups in Birmingham, primarily through our website. With your help, we can help everyone cut the carbon by pooling our knowledge on all the different initiatives in the city to cut CO2 and other greenhouse gases – and other forms of pollution.

We want to feature photos, art, creative writing, and psychological and spiritual perspectives too: anything which is done to celebrate the living earth.

GREENING BRUM

As well as reporting on who’s doing what to help Birmingham go green, we offer services of our own, to individuals and organisations wanting to go greener. These include publicity, web pages, help with fundraising applications, mentoring and organic gardening (check out our plants for sale now).

Tell us what you’re doing to make Birmingham greener!

Use the contact form below, or phone or text 07952 909804. We can tell the world through this website, or you can have your own page on the site which you edit yourself. If you are doing anything to help create a sustainable economy in the city, to preserve biodiversity, or to increase awareness of ecological issues, we want to know about it. Examples include:

  • supplying organic food
  • offering an organic gardening service or organic gardening products
  • insulating your house or fitting solar panels
  • getting into a healthy lifestyle which helps the planet too, or helping others do the same,
  • disseminating knowledge or promoting direct experience of local ecosystems and living landscapes
  • promoting a low-carbon diet (e.g. lower food miles through home-grown fruit and veg, or vegan or vegetarian recipes to reduce our dependence on energy-intensive meat and dairy products)
  • photos of your garden, or your allotment crops, or favourite trees or wild flowers
  • alternatives to the car: your story of what it’s like to give up the car, or get the family onto bicycles, or ideas about better public transport
  • poems, stories and pictures from children and adults which cherish the living earth and help us think green
  • news of how your group, organisation, class, business, church, mosque, gurudwara, synagogue, temple, charity or place of work is helping to save the planet
  • links to environmentally-friendly services from Birmingham City Council, including recycling, open spaces and transport initiatives (trains, buses, trams, cycling, traffic calming, reducing congestion)

We want to hear from you!
